Book Review & Giveaway: Colonization by Aubrie Dionne

First off, let me just say I generally don't read a ton of Sci-Fi but this one interested me. Before I get into the review, here is a little about the book. Don't forget to enter the giveaway below!

About The Book

“Forbidden love on a paradise planet that’s anything but paradise...Dionne’s Colonization will keep you guessing.” – Cherie Reich, author of Defying Gravity

Finding a new home has never been so dangerous.

Andromeda has spent all seventeen years of her life aboard a deep space transport vessel destined for a paradise planet. Her safe cocoon is about to break open as Paradise 21 looms only one month away, and she must take the aptitude tests to determine her role on the new world and her computer

assigned lifemate. As a great-granddaughter of the Commander of the ship, she wants to live up to her family name. But, her forbidden love for her childhood friend, Sirius, distracts her and she fails the tests. The results place her in a menial role in the new colony and pair her with Corvus, “the oaf”.

But when Andromeda steps foot on Paradise 21, her predestined future is the least of her worries. Alien ghosts from a failed colonization warn her of a deadly threat to her colony. And when Sirius's ship crashes on the far ridge in an attempt to investigate, she journeys to rescue him with Corvus.

Andromeda now must convince the authorities of the imminent danger to protect her new home. What she didn't expect was a battle of her own feelings for Sirius and Corvus.

Can she save the colony and discover her true love?

 My Review

Admittedly, I am not a huge SciFi reader. Most of the time those type of stories don't strike my interest. I have to say this one initially caught my attention with it's stunning cover, but I was hooked by the description. This book is definitely more on the romance side but it is still chock full of SciFi actiony goodness.

For someone that normally doesn't read SciFi, I had no trouble getting into Andromeda's story. A young girl on the verge of womanhood and about to start her life on Paradise 21 (her new planet).   Andromeda fails her colonization test and instead of being placed with her best friend and secret love, Sirius, she is placed with Corvus her assigned "lifemate" into a menial life on Paradise 21, but things soon start to happen that lead her to believe things aren't as they seem here on Paradise 21.

I found Colonization a very enjoyable read. The author did a great job making you feel as though you were on the spaceship with them. The world that was created for the story was both amazing and exciting, I find myself wishing there had been more exploration and adventure on Paradise 21. I was absolutely drawn into the story and very quickly found myself self sucked in to their world, worrying along with them. I really liked the main character, Andromeda, and from the first time he appears, Sirius.  The characters in the book were extremely relateable and I found myself having to know what would happen to them.

I think the romance was done very well, and even though that seems be the main plot of the book,  in the end the book wasn't about the relationships it was about Andromeda's self discovery and growth, along the realization that she could accomplish great things and she had. I really would have loved to see even more exploration of the planet because the descriptions really made me feel as though I was there. Overall it was an amazing read and I thank the author for allowing me to share in her world.
