He’s trying to protect his heart…
She’s a shell of the girl she once was…
Can he chase away the demons threatening to destroy her?

Mackenzie Delano craves control. After tragedy strikes during her freshman year of college, she compensates for the helplessness she felt by micro-managing every aspect of her life, from her business life to her social life…to her love life. But she wasn’t expecting to cross paths with a mysterious man who seems to invade her every thought.

Tyler Burnham has been living his life with one rule in mind…never fall in love. Focusing solely on his career, he is able to remain a detached observer of life… Until a case is dropped in his lap, forcing him to form an intimate relationship with a sharp-tongued woman in order to obtain the location of a man deemed an enemy of the State.

When Tyler finds himself falling for Mackenzie, will he be able push his feelings aside and recover the information he needs? Or will he put the mission and their lives at risk to follow his heart?

***Note - Chasing The Dragon is the first book in a two-book duet and is a spin-off of T.K. Leigh's USA Today Bestselling Beautiful Mess series. It is not necessary to have read that series in order to read this duet, but it will contain a mild spoiler from the third book in the Beautiful Mess series, Gorgeous Chaos.***

I had the pleasure of reviewing a wonderful ARC of this book and I couldn't be more excited!

The Burnham’s are back in a big way!  Only this time, the focus is on little brother Tyler, and let me tell you, I think he’s become my new favorite Burnham.  I absolutely LOVED this story and I can’t wait for the conclusion this fall.

Everybody remembers that fabulous Mr. Alexander Burnham… well let me introduce you to his lovable, sexy little brother Tyler.  Tyler is a troubled man that has convinced himself that lonely is the only way he will live.  After a tragic event in his past, Tyler has accepted the lonely for himself and has focused solely on work to give his life a structure and purpose.  This has led him to accepting a job from Alexander that involves a beautiful but very structured and closed off woman named Mackenzie.

Mackenzie is an incredibly driven woman.  She is opening her own restaurant that she co-owns with her friend Jenna.  She has a strict timetable for her life and everything is right on track with where she planned it.  Having every minute planned down to a T means that she doesn’t have any time for a man in her life… and she likes it that way.  Mackenzie is very closed off after being betrayed by someone she thought she loved.  She doesn’t ever want to open her heart up for the possibility of that to happen again.

On a weekly Girls’ Night with Jenna, she meets Tyler Burnham.  She uses her typical “moves” to make a guy walk away from her, but he doesn’t seem to be falling for it.  If anything he’s more persistent! (The nerve! Hahah)  After she blows him off, he continues to attempt to pursue her throughout the week, showing up wherever she is (her restaurant opening night, a bar where her friends celebrate [mind you it was his bar], all over) and she can’t seem to stop thinking about him.  But no, she’s just thinking about how irritated she is with him, right?  It couldn’t be feelings… maybe infatuation? Yep, that’s it… she’s just infatuated with him and just needs to work him out of her system… or so she believes.

As the story continues, it becomes a beautiful love story with a few HUGE issues…

  1. He’s actually supposed to be working a case that involves her as an asset… no matter how his feelings for her have become.
  2. Her father is wanted by the CIA for some terror crimes overseas and Tyler is supposed to find him.
  3. There’s someone scaring Mackenzie that seems to be potentially planning to kill her.

But that’s not that big of a deal, right? Haha

This story is one of those that will keep you guessing, screaming, tearing up, and laughing throughout.  I cannot wait for the conclusion, seeing as it is a duet and I NEED the second part to find out what happens.  I loved this story, I LOVED the characters, and I LOVED the amount of suspense throughout.  I highly recommend this book and I heartily give it 5 stars.

About the author

T.K. Leigh, otherwise known as Tracy Leigh Kellam, is the USA Today Best Selling author of the Beautiful Mess series. Originally from New England, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, dog and three cats, all of which she has rescued (including the husband). She always had a knack for writing, but mostly in the legal field. It wasn't until recently that she decided to try her hand at creative writing and is now addicted to creating different characters and new and unique story lines in the Contemporary Romantic Suspense genre.

When she's not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Unlike Olivia, the main character in her Beautiful Mess series, she has yet to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
