Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I’m actually cooking some Sheperd’s pie at the moment, which I can’t help but think of my Irish characters while doing. Here is one more excerpt from The Untimely Death of Brody Walsh and another chance to win the giveaway!

The Untimely Death of Brody Walsh
“We used to get into so much trouble together. Just the three of us. Those were the good times.” Aggie sighed as the laughter slowly faded off. It was obvious her mind was wandering back to court.
“Ey, come back here, Aggs,” I sat up, pulling her against my chest, “I’m still here with ya,”
“Aggs?” She said with a thoughtful gleam in her eyes, “I haven’t heard you call me that in a long time.”
“All this talkin’ about the old days and drinkin’, I s’pose it just came out, out of habit.” I flashed her a crooked grin as I pushed a wisp of red hair from her eyes, “And speakin’ of old times, ta tell ya the truth, ya havin’ yer hair all twisted up like that reminds me a little of Mrs. Fletcher. Ya remember her, right?”
“Brody!” Aggie gawked at me, scrunching her lips together to keep from smiling.
“Makin’ that face only makes it worse. Don’t ya remember she had a bit of a scrunchy face?” I fell off the couch in a fit of laughter as Aggie let out an outraged gasp and shoved me.
“You drunken idiot,” She giggled as she peered over the edge of the couch at me. I seized the opportunity and pulled her onto the floor with me.
“Unnph” A grunt escaped me as she landed on top of me, “Christ, Aggie, ya nearly crushed my bollocks!”
“Then quit saying I look like Mrs. Fletcher. She was an awful woman!” She tried to scold me through her laughter and a hand swatted at my face but I caught her wrist.
“C’mere,” I pulled her down closer to me and reached my other hand up, slipping my fingers into her hair and gently tugging a few bobby pins out until it tumbled freely over her shoulders. “There. Now ya look like my Aggs.”
I hadn’t meant for the words to slip out of my mouth that way, but you know how thoughts tend to tumble out when you’ve been drinking. Aggie’s green eyes stared down at me, wide with shock at the words I’d held onto since I was a boy.
I bit my lip as I stared back up at her, “Aggie, I –”
Her mouth collided with mine and I let out a groan as my fingers tangled into her hair. I had dreamt of kissing her so many times, and I had chickened out many times more. Even now, she was the one to finally do it. My body felt warmed with the taste of her lips on mine and I pulled her down closer, moaning into her mouth as her tongue brushed against mine. I wanted her so badly, yet something was pulling at me. Something was distracting me from her.
I tried to ignore it. God, I tried. All I wanted was to lose myself in her arms, but something was eating away at me from the dark corners of my mind. Something to do with Claire, even though she was the last person I wanted to think about right now.
“Aggie, we can’t” A pain swelled in my chest as the words left my lips, “Not like this.”
She sat up, her legs still straddling my hips as her stare turned cold.
“After everything at court today, and now I’m bloody drunk. Ya deserve better than this.” My words stumbled out awkwardly as she remained silent and slid off of me.
“You’re such an arsehole, Brody.” Her voice was quiet when she finally spoke.
“Aggie, don’t be like that.” I grabbed for her as she went to stand but she knocked the wind out of me as her knee slammed into my crotch. I was still curled up in a ball, grimacing with pain as she slammed the door shut. Why did I have to think about Claire right then?
